Diwali is the festival of lights – diyas, candles, paper sky lanterns… it’s that time when flickering lights take over the surroundings. But instead of following the usual path, want to try something interesting this Diwali? It’s healthy, and what’s more, kids will love it!
We’re talking preparing some delicious, edible chocolate diyas at home. So here is a super easy solution to soothe your kids’ and family’s aching sweet tooth and ultimate craving. Regular ingredients and a couple of minutes that is all you need to spread the lights of happiness and sparkles of satisfaction. A recipe perfected wellness coach, Kuhoo Gupta, it’s all about eating healthy this festival season…
For making the diyas…
Ingredients
- 20 Dates (deseeded)
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons ragi/ nachni flour
- 15 almonds
- 2 tablespoons flax seeds
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
Making method
• Deseed the dates if they aren’t already, add coconut oil and blend to make a paste. You might see the oil separating from the dates, but that is fine
• Dry roast almonds in the microwave or over stove in a pan. Once cool, grind into a coarse powder. Do not grind much otherwise almond will start leaving its natural oils and it will become a paste
• Dry roast ragi/ nachni flour in the microwave or on the gas stove in a pan
• Grind flax seeds into powder. Again, do not over-grind, as it will become a paste.
Now, add all the ingredients together and mix thoroughly to make a dough – it should be play dough consistency. Add a little more coconut oil if needed to bind it all together. Take a small portion, make a sphere-like you’d do for making a chappati, flatten it and shape it into a diya using your palm and fingers. Repeat this process and make a dozen chocolate diyas. Place them on a platter and bung into the fridge for about an hour, to help them set. Your edible chocolate diyas are ready!
